Seasonal Release Whisky

The Glen Scotia distillery was first opened in the 1830s and we still use much of the original equipment and methodology to distil single malts. This is how we create that true Campbeltown character that our whiskies have become known and loved for.

While tradition has endured in our whisky-making through the years, our seasonal release whisky series allows us to experiment with different cask finishings and create limited edition malts that explore new flavour profiles and honour our innovative beginnings.

Our Growing Seasonal Release Series

Glen Scotia's single malt whisky collection has something for everyone and our seasonal range adds to this in so many ways. Each limited edition seasonal whisky that we produce has its own story and profile.

Currently, we have an 11 year old and 12 year old seasonal release scotch whisky in our collection.

Glen Scotia Seasonal Release 2020

This 11 year old seasonal release is best known as the Glen Scotia Sherry Double Cask Finish and is bottled at 54.1% ABV at cask strength with no chill filtration.

Maturation & Cask Finishings

Initially matured in first fill bourbon casks, and finished in a combination of first fill Oloroso sherry hogsheads and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. The marriage of the two sherry casks ensures the best of each is passed onto the spirit, resulting in a new depth in flavour upon bottling.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, you'll find gentle spice and juicy plum offset with toffee and citrusy dried orange peel for balance.

Flavours on the palate move from sweet and creamy vanilla to salted brown butter, while sherried notes of raisin and sultana come through to represent the PX cask and first fill Oloroso hogsheads used for the finishing.

With a velvety rich mouthfeel, the end of the palate hints at a long, toasty and dry finish with a warm spice full of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove.

Glen Scotia Seasonal Release 2021

The Glen Scotia 12 year old seasonal release of 2021 has a warming spicy character, uses a unique combination of oloroso and PX sherry casks.

With our Glen Scotia 12 year limited edition whisky, you can expect a no chill filtration, natural colour whisky, bottled at a cask strength of 54.7% ABV.

Maturation & Cask Finishings

This powerful 12 year old seasonal release is aged for 11 years in first fill bourbon and American oak hogsheads, has a 12-month finish in first fill Oloroso hogsheads and heavily-charred American Oak barrels, and is then married before bottling.

The charred oak allows the spirit to better interact with the American oak casks and all that it has to offer.

Tasting Notes

The nose is ripe with toffee and red apple in a way that is reminiscent of childhood candied apples. True to our distillery character, this is joined by a sea-shell salinity that gives a gentle way to salted caramel.

The flavour on the palate abandons the sea spray for the splendid creaminess of vanilla ice cream, brown sugar and dried fruit with cinnamon, nutmeg and subtle ginger spice on the finish — but not before, like a pendulum, there is a taste of both orchard fruits and forest fruits, with hints of pear drops, orange oil and red berries.

Made by History, Inspired by People

The Glen Scotia distillery represents whisky from the whiskiest place in the world.

We are always looking for ways to share our love of a good dram with whisky enthusiasts, from the amateur to the connoisseur.

The Glen Scotia 12 Year release has inspired a celebration of unity through a perfect pairing of flavours, casks, good food and great company.

One way to enjoy this was by partnering with chef Gary Robinson.

The Perfect Pairing

Executive Chef at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, Gary Robinson joined us to create three new dishes that pair perfectly with our wintery 12 year old seasonal whisky of 2021. Each of the recipes incorporates this special limited edition whisky both as an ingredient and as a pairing partner to the 3-course meal.

Watch our interview with Gary to get a glimpse into the thought processes behind the food and single malt combination and how he managed to ensure that the Campbeltown character we are so known for made its way into his bespoke dessert.
