GROWING UP NEXT TO TWO DISTILLERIES, MICHAEL DEVELOPED A PASSION FOR
DISTILLING AND BREWING AT AN EARLY AGE WHICH IS WHY HE WENT ON TO
STUDY THIS AT HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY.
“IT IS AN HONOUR TO BE ABLE TO CREATE A PRODUCT THAT PLAYS
SUCH A KEY PART IN PEOPLE’S SIGNIFICANT MILESTONES”
LOCH LOMOND GROUP MASTER BLENDER
Our distillery is managed by Iain McAlister, who hails from Campbeltown. Iain has worked at the distillery for over 9 years and is very hands on in the day to day production of the Glen Scotia spirit. Managing a small team of only 7 the distillery is continually increasing production with Iain on hand to ensure we maintain the highest quality new make spirt coming off the stills.
In 2015, we opened our new Visitor’s Centre at the distillery. It is a beautiful room, dedicated to the enjoyment of our very special whiskies. Using traditional materials form the region including local stone, wood and specially commissioned Glen Scotia tweed, there can be no finer place to enjoy our whisky at its best - at its home.
Please join us here for a dram or two, and savour the many different flavours of Glen Scotia Single Malt Scotch Whisky. There is also a very well stocked shop where you can purchase a bottle of one, or all of your favourites.
After graduating, Michael worked in brewing for ten years until joining Loch Lomond Distillery in 2007 where he has been at the helm as Master Blender since 2014.
Michael explains: “Although Loch Lomond Group has a small team it has a large capability for what can be done. We understand the distilling process so intrinsically we can vary this to achieve the exact flavour we want before the whisky enters the cask. As we are in control of the process at every stage we have a real opportunity to shape the whisky.”
