The arrival of a new still is no small moment for any distillery – particularly one with almost two centuries of history behind it.
Captured from above, the latest work at Glen Scotia marks an important investment in the future of our Campbeltown distillery: the replacement and upgrade of our stills, ensuring our whisky-making team can continue crafting Glen Scotia for generations to come.
It is a significant moment in our story. But then, Campbeltown has never been short of ambition.
A SMALL TOWN WITH A BIG WHISKY HISTORY
Whisky has shaped Campbeltown for centuries.
At its Victorian peak, around 30 distilleries operated in this small coastal town, sending their whisky from Scotland’s west coast to drinkers around the world. Campbeltown earned its place as the Whisky Capital of the World – built on determination, ingenuity and no shortage of local character.
Much has changed since then. The character of the town has not.
Glen Scotia has stood here since 1832, making whisky through changing fortunes, shifting tastes and almost two centuries of history. Today, we are one of only three working distilleries in Campbeltown, proudly carrying its remarkable whisky-making legacy forward.
This latest investment will help us continue that story.
RENEWING THE HEART OF THE DISTILLERY
The still house lies at the heart of Glen Scotia.
It is here that our new make spirit begins to take shape, developing the qualities that will eventually become the tropical fruit, coastal influence and signature oily character found in our single malt.
Replacing and upgrading our stills was therefore about far more than installing new copper. It required careful planning, considerable expertise and a deep understanding of the character we are here to protect.
The work represents an important investment in the long-term future of Glen Scotia, giving our distillery team the equipment they need to continue making whisky here in Campbeltown for many years to come.
Because whisky rewards those prepared to think beyond the present.
The spirit we make today will rest in cask for years – and, in some cases, decades – before it is ready to be shared. Every investment we make now becomes part of a much longer story.
CHARACTER CANNOT BE MANUFACTURED
Glen Scotia’s character comes from more than copper, casks and time.
It comes from the town around us. From our position close to Campbeltown Harbour and the sea. From generations of whisky-making knowledge and the skill of the people who bring that knowledge to life every day.
You can find it in our whisky, feel it throughout our historic distillery and see it in the determination to keep moving forward without losing sight of what matters.
It is what we call Big Campbeltown Character.
As we invest in Glen Scotia’s future, that character remains at the heart of everything we do. The equipment may be renewed, but our purpose remains unchanged: to create a distinctive Campbeltown single malt that could only come from here.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
There is a renewed energy around Campbeltown whisky today.
More people are seeking out its distinctive style, making the journey to the town and discovering the distilleries, stories and people behind it. We are proud of the part Glen Scotia has played in returning Campbeltown to its rightful place on the world whisky map.
This latest upgrade reflects Loch Lomond Group’s continued commitment to Glen Scotia, our people and the town we are proud to call home.
For almost 200 years, Glen Scotia has endured, evolved and continued to make whisky on the same historic site.
Now, with renewed copper at the heart of our distillery, we are ready to carry even more Big Campbeltown Character into the years ahead.
