Once known as the 'Victorian Whisky Capital', Campbeltown was a thriving, bustling hub for Scotch whisky production. Home to more than 30 distilleries, it produced more casks of malt whisky than any other region in Scotland.
Over time, the majority of Campbeltown’s once-thriving distilleries fell silent and closed their doors forever – most, the casualties of harsh economic downturns and the ravages of two world wars. Today only three distilleries remain - Glen Scotia Distillery, Springbank Distillery and Glengyle Distillery - each built within a short stroll from one another.
The resilience and spirit of Campbeltown’s distillery workers, local people and the wider community have been the cornerstone of maintaining the heritage of Campbeltown whisky. While Scotch whisky is a serious business in this town, all three Campbeltown distilleries share a collaborative spirit, united in their dedication, not only of preserving this historic region, but of upholding the classic Campbeltown style of malt whisky.
