Release No.2, the second in the Icons of Campbeltown series is inspired by the marking depicting Saint Michael, the courageous Archangel, who heroically slayed a fire-breathing dragon with his spear.

To celebrate the mythical tale, we have released this unique medium peated 14 year old single malt whisky. The bold maritime salinity and smoky peat are beautifully balanced by the wonderful sweetness of candied red fruits, enriched after six months in the finest ex-Barolo red wine casks.

  • The Icons of Campbeltown series pays tribute to the Campbeltown community that ensured Glen Scotia prevailed through history. Taking our inspiration from the Campbeltown Market Cross – a historic community meeting point for celebration and storytelling, with a series of saints and beasts carved into its stone face – each release recalls a tale of local community spirit.

Release No.2 takes inspiration from St Michael, backed by an army of supporters, slaying a fire breathing dragon. Ravenous fires were something of a theme in Campbeltown’s Victorian whisky-making heyday, claiming and laying waste to several of the town’s distilleries. On December 17th, 1899, Glen Scotia along with heroic community members fought a fierce blaze at Dalintober distillery and saved it from an early fate. You’ll find no living saints or dragon slayers in Campbeltown, just a community who endures against the odds by virtue of its prevailing spirit of unity.

In celebration of the mythical tale, our Master Blender has chosen this medium peated 14-year-old single malt whisky. Finished for six months in ex-Barolo red wine casks, creating a whisky full of fiery red fruits. The smoky character, intertwined with layers of fruit, spice and a subtle maritime salinity, leaves no question of which distillery this limited release hails from.

Stunning dram! I have the three bottles in the series as part of my collection but purchased an additional 14 year old for drinking. It is cask strength so I add an ice cube as this really opens up the flavours. Rich, intense with a powerhouse of a finish.

Although we live in Surrey now, I’m a proud Scot. My Granny worked at Glen Scotia, my Mum grew up in Campbeltown and my Dad is buried at Killkerran. I’m a little bit biased when you launch a new malt ☺️

Absolutely loved the marriage of classic Glen Scotia character with its caramel and maritime notes to the bold peaty flavours! Also my youngest son (non-verbal, autistic) loves the art on the box, he's put the box next to his bed and enjoys looking at it.

Lovely dram. Ticks all the boxes; great distillery, Campbeltown style, cask strength, peated and finished in red wine cask. On the nose- macerated raspberries, with lovely salinity which doesn’t make it overly sweet. Subtle smoke- more like a rich wood smoke. Taste- initially dry and woody (surprisingly), melting into sweeter notes though still some tart fruit. A little citrus at the end of the tasting with slight salt and pepper finish. Finish is long and where the peat comes in. Again, wood smoke rather than ash or bbq. Almost Bakewell tart in finish. It is excellent, but I expected that and is definitely to my personal taste.
