Release No.4, the fourth chapter in the Icons of Campbeltown Series, is dedicated to the Griffin — the Griffin was said to soar high above Campbeltown’s harbour, ever alert, guarding what mattered most, Campbeltown’s liquid gold.

Win a Trip to Campbeltown and meet the Guardians of Glen Scotia

The Icons of Campbeltown series pays tribute to the Campbeltown community that ensured Glen Scotia prevailed through history. Taking our inspiration from the Campbeltown Market Cross – a historic community meeting point for celebration and storytelling, with a series of saints and beasts carved into its stone face – each release recalls a tale of local community spirit.

Legend has it, the Griffin was said to soar high above Campbeltown’s harbour, ever alert, guarding what mattered most, Campbeltown’s liquid gold. For in Campbeltown, our true gold has never been buried beneath the earth, but patiently crafted within our distilleries, resting in the barrels at the harbour, before its journey to the new world.

This twelve-year-old unpeated limited edition single malt is a celebration of that liquid gold. Finished for twelve months in Vin Santo wine casks, the whisky reveals a rich honeyed sweetness layered with notes of dried apricot and sultana. Toasted almond and hazelnut add depth and warmth, while a gentle hint of cinnamon spice lingers, rewarding those who take the time to savour it. It is a whisky of balance and quiet confidence, our coastal influence soars through the palate, much like the guardian at our harbour.

"Rich honeyed character, lots of apricots, still underlying salinity that we're known for at Glen Scotia"

Working with Joel, we uncovered the story of John McIsaac’s (also referenced as M’Isaac’s) mermaid sighting, and his eerily detailed description that was supported by other community members.   “I’ve always had a fascination with ancient times, traditions and beliefs. Getting to know the story of this project was inspiring. I began with rough sketches, with an emphasis on mood, before defining the detail of the painting”
