Release No.4, the fourth chapter in the Icons of Campbeltown Series, is dedicated to the Griffin — the Griffin was said to soar high above Campbeltown’s harbour, ever alert, guarding what mattered most, Campbeltown’s liquid gold.
The Icons of Campbeltown series pays tribute to the Campbeltown community that ensured Glen Scotia prevailed through history. Taking our inspiration from the Campbeltown Market Cross – a historic community meeting point for celebration and storytelling, with a series of saints and beasts carved into its stone face – each release recalls a tale of local community spirit.
Legend has it, the Griffin was said to soar high above Campbeltown’s harbour, ever alert, guarding what mattered most, Campbeltown’s liquid gold. For in Campbeltown, our true gold has never been buried beneath the earth, but patiently crafted within our distilleries, resting in the barrels at the harbour, before its journey to the new world.
This twelve-year-old unpeated limited edition single malt is a celebration of that liquid gold. Finished for twelve months in Vin Santo wine casks, the whisky reveals a rich honeyed sweetness layered with notes of dried apricot and sultana. Toasted almond and hazelnut add depth and warmth, while a gentle hint of cinnamon spice lingers, rewarding those who take the time to savour it. It is a whisky of balance and quiet confidence, our coastal influence soars through the palate, much like the guardian at our harbour.

"Rich honeyed character, lots of apricots, still underlying salinity that we're known for at Glen Scotia"

JOEL HOLTZMAN
Joel Holtzman is an illustrator and concept artist based in the Netherlands. He has worked on some of the world's most loved sources of fantasy, including but not limited to Marvel, Macmillan Publishing, Disney and LucasFilm.Glen Scotia was delighted to partner with Joel to reimagine the Icons of the Campbeltown cross. Working with Joel, we uncovered the story of John McIsaac’s (also referenced as M’Isaac’s) mermaid sighting, and his eerily detailed description that was supported by other community members. “I’ve always had a fascination with ancient times, traditions and beliefs. Getting to know the story of this project was inspiring. I began with rough sketches, with an emphasis on mood, before defining the detail of the painting”

A superb range of whisky, and the ordering process couldn’t be more straightforward.
I’m sure l’ll be back again soon!
I have only had a wee dram of this whisky so far but I love it it is very smooth
The only whisky in the icons series that I haven’t tried is the peated one as I’m not keen on smoky whisky, but the rest are gorgeous, I love the artwork too
Sorry haven't as yet opened the bottle but I just wanted to comment on the delivery, time from point of sale to delivery was excellent, packaged by Andrea which was brilliant, arrive in good order. Thank you
Coincidence! I was barely back from holiday in Tuscany where I discovered Vin Santo and the custom of dipping cantuccini when Icons No.4 was announced, immediately putting it at the top of my wanted list. What would the sweet wine finish be like? Could it replace the tiny Il Santo I had brought home (accursed baggage allowance)? How would the cantuccini go with it?
No.4 duly arrived on what had been a stressful day at work, so the seal was destined not to remain intact for long. I found a liquor glass that my parents used for fortified wine, which seemed the most appropriate for a first sample. The scene was set.
The nose immediately reminded me of GS12, but then gave way to rich fruit cake. The palate is more complex, lots going on, and the finish is long. Finally, the sweet smell from the empty glass demanded a refill.
Maybe I won’t recommend cantuccini dipped in the neat whisky, however. It worked well flavour-wise, but stung the gums somewhat. An accompanying slice of Genoa cake might be better.
All in all, this is another great Glen Scotia and worthy of its place in the Icons series.
I was so looking forward to this next release in the series and have not been disappointed. I am slightly biased as Glen Scotia is my favourite whisky brand !
Unfortunately I'm not a whisky drinker but I buy them for a good friend of mine . Dale Robertson who is also a customer of yours . His favourite distillery .
I love Glen Scotia whisky. I have done since the first time I ever tasted whisky properly. Every release is superb. My favourite is the 15yrs but all.the rest are uniquely great
The 4th Campbeltown Icons bottle has been purchased as a Christmas present for my grandson. This will go along with Icons one to three, none of which have been opened yet as he's only 3 years old 😳
And then there were 4!!!
Absolutely love this collection from this amazing distillery. It’s the one release anywhere that I eagerly look forward to and have had to get the last couple of years.
… and the artwork is stunning.
